Mediation is a voluntary dispute resolution process that uses neutral parties who are trained to facilitate negotiated settlements between the parties. Because participation is voluntary, a mediation will not lead to a judgment or decision by the neutral third party. Instead, it is always up to the parties themselves to determine whether or not to resolve their disputes. Neutrals are trained to facilitate settlement discussions without rancor and to make certain that the voices of mediating parties are heard. The mediation process is usually effective and can lead to faster, less expensive and fairer results than litigation and in a less acrimonious setting.
If the parties desire, a mediator can also provide an evaluation of issues in dispute.
